ABSTRACT
This study analyses food security and poverty status among households in Ehime Mbano. Specifically, the study examines the effect of poverty on agricultural output in Nigeria, studies the effect of poverty level and unemployment level on sustainable agricultural output in Nigeria and finds out if there is a relationship between the poverty level and unemployment level. The study uses the ANOVA statistical too test its hypotheses. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that there is a relationship between poverty level and unemployment level in Nigeria. Furthermore, poverty level has an effect on agricultural output in Nigeria and there is an effect of poverty level and unemployment level on sustainable agricultural output. The study recommends that programs should be developed and targeted to reducing rural poverty and food insecurity. This has a resultant effect on national poverty and food insecurity reduction. It would reduce rural-urban drift and thus pressure on resources in the urban areas. Socioeconomic data of the study area suggest that majority of the rural household do not have access to formal credit. Micro- credit schemes which are made accessible to rural households can be a policy option.
